Culinary Entrepreneurs

Who is a Culinary Entrepreneur?
If you have ever considered becoming a self-employed food professional then you a considering a career as culinary entrepreneur. The Business of Cooking can help you with training to excel at your craft. We have a network of professionals who have expertise in all of these fields.

Personal Chef
A relatively new profession, personal chef goes into a client's home to prepare meals using the client's kitchen. Meals are generally made for one or two weeks usually with the number of portions based on the size of the family. In contrast, a private chef is normally employed by a single family and often lives with them.

Caterer
A small catering business is one that prepares menu items or entire meals for clients. Catering includes everything from bag lunches for sport teams to elegant dinners for weddings and in-home dinner parties. Some caterers handle more than just food including equipment rental, music, flowers and decorations and handling other client requests.

Restaurants and Cafés
Many dream of becoming a restaurateur because they love cooking for people. Restaurants no matter how big or small are very complex enterprises. Well run establishments may look simple but it's because the owners and management have mastered the ins and outs of menu and pricing, staffing and procurement. Owning a restaurant is more than a 9 to 5 job and it requires an enormous amount of skill, energy and tenacity in addition to filling a market niche.

Gourmet Products
Some culinary professionals produce delicious gourmet goods like jams, chocolates and confections and market them through traditional retail venues and on-line as well. Preparation of such goods must be done in certified kitchens that meet both local health board standards as well USDA and other licensing board requirements.

Food Stylist
A food stylist makes food look mouth-watering when you see it in print, on tv or film, in magazines and cookbooks and on food packaging. Without the benefit of food styling, food will look lifeless on the plate.

Culinary Travel
For an intimate food and wine experience both here and abroad, a culinary travel company can be the answer. If you have ever thought of being a tour guide and know your way around a kitchen as well as the world's vineyards, this may be the field you have been looking for.
